Abstract

Cebu City, located in the central Philippines, is an important economic, cultural, and design hub of the country. In recent years, Cebu City's design industry has risen rapidly, becoming a significant component of its economic growth. The design industry in Cebu has not only driven the diversification of the local economy but has also provided numerous employment opportunities in the region. With the support of the government and local authorities for the creative industries, Cebu City has attracted a large number of design firms and creative talents, bringing a new wave of economic prosperity to the city.

The creative industries in Cebu cover various fields, including architectural design, industrial design, and product design. As the city continues to urbanise, the design industry has played a key role in driving urban renewal and addressing urban development challenges. In particular, Cebu has gradually integrated innovative design concepts and practices into all aspects of urban construction, significantly enhancing the city's sustainability, especially in terms of green growth.

Cebu City has also actively collaborated with creative cities around the world, learning from the advanced design concepts and practical experiences of cities such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and New York. Moreover, Cebu has strengthened its collaboration with other Southeast Asian cities, particularly with the capital Manila and the neighbouring provinces of Cebu and Mandaue. These cross-regional design innovation collaborations have not only enhanced Cebu's own design capabilities but have also promoted economic integration and sustainable development across the entire region.

The design industry in Cebu is not limited to urban areas but also extends to the surrounding rural regions. Through innovative design, Cebu has focused on improving the quality of life for rural residents and promoted the use of green energy production methods in these areas, driving sustainable development in the countryside.
